Graham Malkin: New Head of Boarding and Enrichment
Graham joins us from Amadeus International School in Vienna, where he founded a new boarding house with a capacity of 130 international students. He believes boarding offers an unrivalled opportunity for young people to achieve their full potential given the right support, encouragement, and challenge.
During his time in Austria, he pioneered the creation of the school’s ‘Signature Experience Programme’, a whole school initiative that develops character, grit, and determination through a rich and diverse range of trips, activities, and expeditions.
Graham spent a large part of his educational career in Dubai, where he was the Director of Boarding and Outdoor Education for the Repton group of schools, as well as the founder of Ecoventure, the Middle East’s largest outdoor education company.
During the past twenty years, Graham has worked in educational establishments in Canada, UK, Qatar, the UAE, and Austria in a range of roles including health and safety, teaching, outdoor education, and boarding.
As a keen outdoorsman, he spends his spare time hiking, kitesurfing, skiing, and kayaking. He is a qualified mountain leader, kayak coach and windsurfing instructor.
Graham will be joined at King’s College School, Cascais with his wife Davinia, two sons, aged nine and six, and their daughter aged three.
The family are very much looking forward to the move and being an active part of the boarding house at the school.
Premium Quality Accommodation
Students can spend time in the communal lounge, which has a fully-equipped kitchenette, so they can make a snack whenever they wish. This area is also used as a comfortable space beyond their bedrooms where students can spend quality time together, take part in film nights, house activities, games and experience the unique offering that a boarding environment can provide.
Outside there are dedicated spaces for boarders, such as a spacious terrace, BBQ area and lounge space offering excellent views towards the sea. Boarding students will also have access to the amazing on-site school sports facilities, to allow them to maximise their free time during the evenings and on the weekends.
Cascais is the perfect location for boarders. It is a coastal resort town in Portugal, just 30 minutes west of Lisbon, which is home to one of Portugal’s two international airports. The old town is home to medieval monuments and stunning architecture, providing the perfect opportunity for weekend exploration to satisfy the senses.
Cascais was a former royal retreat and is consistently ranked highly for its quality of life. It is also known for welcoming regular international sporting events, such as the Ocean Race (sailing), the Longines Global Champions Tour (horse-riding), the Estoril Open (tennis), Cascais Padel Master (padel) and the Billabong Pro Cascais (surf).
